Prior to the trade deadline, the Commanders decided they were going to need help in the secondary. With the limited skills of Emmanuel Forbes, the Commanders needed to add some secondary help quickly and using their trading ability, they reached out to the New Orleans Saints and struck a deal for Marshon Lattimore.
The All-Pro cornerback should provide shut down corner play and the ability to be physical at the LoS where he can disrupt WR's getting off the blocks and easing into their routes.
Lattimore has been oft injured of his career, but at this point, its a high risk high reward situation. The Commanders are on the cusp of putting together a play off run and need to shore up some areas to at least be credible and worthy heading down the stretch. Lattimore has played in 7 games this season but has since had an issue with his hamstring which kept him out of the Steelers game.
Washington did have to extend the olive branch a bit with an offer of a 3rd and 4th round pick as well as a 6th round pick to acquire the 4 time pro bowl CB. Along with Lattimore, the Commanders receive a 5th round pick from the Saints.
The hope is that Lattimore stays healthy and can contribute in man press coverage for the Commanders. The 2022 season was an injury plagued season playing 7 games before getting injured, and there seemed to be some carry over in 2023 playing in only 10 games.
Time will tell if this worked out for the Commanders or not.
